Imagine your child undergoing a complex dental treatment like a root canal, extraction, or oral surgery. When treatment is complete, your child will have no recollection of the time it took, the pain, the noise, or the discomfort.
Ours is one of the very few clinics in Mumbai which has Conscious sedation facility which offers your child the option of comfortable, safe and effective sedation dentistry.
What is sedation dentistry?
Sedation dentistry allows us to provide a variety of dental treatments safely and comfortably for children who experience anxiety when visiting the dentist. There are several benefits to sedation dentistry, including:
What is general anaeasthesia?
General dental anaesthesia is a management technique that uses medications to cause the child to become unconscious and asleep while receiving dental care. It is provided by an anaesthetist in hospital set up.
Which child is right candidate for dental treatment under general anaesthesia?
Children with severe anxiety and/or inability to cooperate are candidates for general anaesthesia. These children may be young and require extensive dental treatment and their anxiety cannot be controlled with conscious sedation techniques discussed earlier.
Is general dental anaesthesia safe?
Like any other procedure, some risks are involved, but it is safe when child is checked medically to be fit for general anaesthesia and appropriately trained individuals are administering in an appropriately equipped facility. We have an experienced and competent paediatric dentist and anaesthesiologist in our team. The child is monitored closely during the general anaesthesia procedure.
In short, when all the due care is taken, then it is absolutely safe. In most of the cases it is the only option left to proceed with the treatment in the most effective way.
It is quite natural for you to worry as a parent but your anxiety will vanish away once you see your child with a healthy smile.
What special considerations are associated with the general anaesthesia appointment?
A physical examination is required prior to general anaesthesia for dental care. This physical examination provides information to ensure the safety of the general anaesthesia procedure. Parents are instructed to report to the paediatric dentist any illness that occurs prior to the general anaesthesia appointment. It may be necessary to reschedule the appointment. It is very important to follow instructions regarding preoperative fasting from fluids and foods. Your child will be discharged when alert and ready to depart. You will be instructed to let the child rest at home with minimal activity planned until the next day. Post-operative dietary recommendations will also be given.
Will it be performed in the clinic?
We perform all General Anaesthesia procedures in a government approved private out-patient surgical facility for child’s safety.
